X injiang (full name: Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region) is the provincial administrative region with the greatest land area in China. X injiang (full name: Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region) is the provincial administrative region with the greatest land area in China. The total area of Xinjiang is 1/6 of Chinese land area, and the length of border line accounts for 1/4. Founded in 1955, this autonomous region, also the former Xinjiang Province established in 1884 (the Late Qing Dynasty), has the capital located in Urumqi. The most area of Xinjiang was firstly included in China’s territory since Han Dynasty. Along with the replacement of dynasties in Central China, Xinjiang was ruled by horde nationality and Central Plain nationality alternatively for a long time. In 1757, after Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty again opened up the native land of Xinjiang, the land was named as Xinjiang, which meant “the native land returned to the country”. Xinjiang is the gathering region of many nationalities, originally including 13 nationalities with a long history such as Han, Uyghur, Kazakhstan, Hui, Kyrgyz, Mongolian, Xibe, Tajik, Uzbek, Manchu, Daur, Russia, and Tartar. Currently, there are also other 34 nationalities such as Dongxiang, Zhuang, Salar, Zang, Yi, Bouyei, and Korean. Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is the well-known village of song and dance, village of melon and fruit, and state of gold and jade. Xinjiang is a region with vast territory and abundant resources, grand landscape, boundless desert, numerous historical sites, many nationalities, and strange folk customs. Many tourist attractions include Kanas Lake, Loulan Ancient City, and Tianchi.

X injiang is located in northwest China at east longitude 73°21′ – 96°21′ and north altitude 32°22′ – 49°33′. With an area of 1,660,000 km2, accounting for 1/6 of total national area, Xinjiang is the province with biggest administrative area in China. In the east and in the south, Xinjiang is connected with Gansu, Qinghai and Tibet in succession. In the northeast, Xinjiang is near People’s Republic of Mongolia. In the west, Xinjiang borders on Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. In the southwest, Xinjiang is near Afghan, Pakistan, and India. With the border line of over 5,300 km, Xinjiang is a province with longest borderline in China.

X injiang is far away from the sea and located deep in the inland. With high mountains surrounding Xinjiang, moisture from the sea can hardly enter Xinjiang, resulting in an obvious temperate continental climate. The temperature change is great, sunshine duration is long (annual sunshine duration is 2500 hours to 3500 hours), the precipitation is small, and the air is dry.

M ean annual precipitation is about 150 mm. However, the precipitations in different places are different. In the hottest month (July), Turpan, which is known as a fire continent, has an average temperature above 33℃. The absolute highest temperature once reached 49.6℃, ranking the top in China.

X injiang is named western region in history. Historically, Urumqi is the key town in Xinbei Road of the old Silk Road, the exchange center for eastern and western economy and culture, and the gathering place of western culture and Chinese culture. With the characteristic of diversified culture, Urumqi is featured by openness, enthusiasm, boldness, and endeavor. Urumqi is the most vigorous city in Central Asia. Being the gathering place of Chinese culture, Indian culture, Islamic culture, and European American culture, tens of nationalities live here for reproduction and integration, resulting in magnificent and glorious culture well known by the world. The origin of music in Uygur, such as Twelve Muqam, Jangar of Mongolian Nationality, and Manas of Khalkhas, are glorious like other heroic epics in the world. There are 47 nationalities in Urumqi including Han, Uygur, Kazakhstan, Hui, and Mongolian. Culture and art and customs and habits of various nationalities lead to tourist human landscape with strong national features. Unique clothes, national cultural activities including horse racing, sheep holding, girl catching, Darwaz performance, Arkon singing, and enthusiastic and friendly nationalities good at singing and dancing form the unique and colorful glamour of Urumqi, which is very attractive to tourists from other countries.

Y ou can realize different Xinjiang in different seasons. The commonest saying is that the best time for travel in Xinjiang is July, August, and September. In this period, the flowers and green grass boom luxuriantly in various grasslands of Xinjiang. Melons and fruits are also mature and the price is cheap. What else can be more important than these for tourists from far away? Of course, this period is also the peak season of Xinjiang tourism. There are many customers. The hotels can hardly be booked. Air tickets have little discount. It is a wise choice to enjoy a happy travel and save a lot of money in the off season. May and June is the months to start summer travel in Xinjiang. Xinjiang in May looks a bit quiet, not as noisy as it is in the peak season. People who enjoy quietness can come to Xinjiang in this period. May is the time that Turpan mulberries are mature, and June is the time that more than 20,000 mu purple lavenders in Yili River Valley are billowing in the wind and giving out floral fragrance. What is worthy to mention is June, the most beautiful and shortest time in Kanas spring. October is the end time of summer travel in Xinjiang. Fruits and melons still taste delicious, and the climate is pleasant. October is most beautiful time in autumn of Kanas. November is a slack period for travel agencies and hotels in Xinjiang, and also the boundary between summer travel and winter travel in Xinjiang. Winter travel in Xinjiang is from November to April of the second year and gradually takes shape in recent years, mainly including Kansa Ice and Snow Tour, Tianshan Heaven Lake Snow Tour, Kashi Folk Customs Tour and etc. In long winter, Xinjiang is the heaven for outdoor sports fans who love skiing, skating, desert hiking and etc.
